WAYWARD · ON RESERVE · PILOT
For those who pilot their own machine.
A pilot doesn't have to leave the ground.
You can pilot an aircraft. A motorcycle. A race car. A boat. An overland rig. Anything that puts a machine beneath you and asks you to make the decisions.
To us, pilot is the person in command.
The person reading the instruments. Watching the conditions. Knowing the machine. Knowing the route. And knowing when it's time to turn around.
That is who we designed this watch for.
The Wayward · On Reserve · Pilot is an automatic mechanical instrument watch built around a simple idea: sometimes knowing what you have left matters more than knowing what has passed.
At its center is Wayward's signature 60-degree rotated time display, surrounded by an independently controlled Range Ring, an integrated ICE emergency identification system, and a purpose-built matte black ceramic case available in 45 mm and 40 mm.
It isn't an aviation watch.
It isn't a racing watch.
It isn't a motorcycle watch.
It's a Pilot watch.
Whatever you pilot.
THE ROTATED DIAL
The first thing you notice about the On Reserve · Pilot is that something is different.
The dial is rotated 60 degrees clockwise, placing 12 at approximately the physical 2 o'clock position, 3 at 5, 6 at 8, and 9 at 11.
It isn't rotated simply to look different.
The orientation was designed around reading the watch while you're operating a machine. With your arm extended toward handlebars, a steering wheel, controls or a helm, the time display naturally rotates toward your line of sight.
Instead of turning your wrist toward your face, the watch meets you where your wrist already is.
It is a defining part of Wayward's design language, first established with the Open Water One and carried into the On Reserve · Pilot.
The dial itself remains intentionally restrained. There is no conventional Wayward logo occupying the dial. Only the 12, 3, 6 and 9 numerals are used, accompanied by eight circular luminous markers and a clean minute track.
Broad hour and minute hands use warm-white luminous centers for immediate visibility. A thin seconds hand is finished with a red tip.
Look closely at its opposite end.
That's where you'll find us.
The Wayward brand mark forms the counterweight of the running seconds hand. It is constantly moving, subtle until you notice it, and unmistakably Wayward.
ON RESERVE
THE RANGE RING
This is where the watch gets its name.
5 · 4 · 3 · 2 · 1 · R
The independently rotating Range Ring functions as a mechanical countdown reference.
Set it according to whatever matters to the machine you're piloting or the journey you're on, then read what remains at a glance.
Five hours of fuel.
Four hours until sunset.
Three hours until your turnaround point.
Two hours of riding range.
One hour until the next checkpoint.
And then:
R. Reserve.
The final portion of the scale transitions to orange before reaching the red R, providing an immediate visual warning as the remaining range approaches its limit.
The Range Ring deliberately doesn't tell you what it's measuring.
That's your decision.
Time. Fuel. Distance. Daylight. Air. Endurance.
Whatever determines when it's time to head home.
There is no app. No notification. No battery-dependent digital complication.
Just another instrument at the pilot's disposal.
TWO CROWNS. TWO JOBS.
The On Reserve · Pilot uses two independently operated crowns, each dedicated to a specific function.
The R crown controls the rotating Range Ring.
The T crown controls the time.
Separating the two functions makes the watch intuitive to operate while preserving the clean, instrument-driven character of the design.
Both crowns feature a heavily textured surface for positive grip, even with wet hands or gloves.
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
When you pilot your own machine, you accept something else along with the freedom:
Sometimes things go wrong.
A watch is also one of the few things you can reasonably expect to still be attached to you when they do.
So we decided to use that.
The fixed information rehaut surrounding the display reads:
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY · ICE · MEDICAL ID ON CASEBACK
The ICE designation is highlighted in red so a first responder can quickly recognize that emergency information is available on the watch itself.
Turn the On Reserve · Pilot over and the caseback becomes part of the instrument.
The emergency caseback provides dedicated fields for critical identification and medical information, including:
NAME
ICE CONTACT
ALLERGIES
A dedicated area also provides access to the wearer's emergency profile.
The information is deliberately located on the caseback rather than cluttering the dial. From the front, the Pilot remains a clean mechanical instrument. When the information is needed, its purpose becomes immediately apparent.
THE CERAMIC CASE
The On Reserve · Pilot is built around a matte black ceramic case, chosen to reinforce the watch's functional, equipment-like character.
Rather than using a conventional case with lugs that appear attached to a central body, the Pilot uses a continuous architecture. The lugs flow directly from the circular mid-case, creating an uninterrupted form from the upper lug, around the curved case flank, and into the lower lug.
A defined shoulder crease separates the upper surface from the curved side of the case. It gives the profile structure without interrupting the continuous architecture.
The result is distinctly Wayward: circular without being generic, substantial without becoming a cushion case, and designed to look like a single piece rather than an assembly of unrelated components.
The exterior of the lugs remains completely clean. There are no drilled lug holes because the strap uses an integrated quick-release system.
Above the dial sits a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment.
The bezel, sapphire crystal, dial and circular ceramic mid-case are concentric, sharing the same central axis and giving the watch its strong instrument-like geometry.
45 MM OR 40 MM
Not every pilot has the same wrist.
So the On Reserve · Pilot is offered in two sizes.
45 MM
The 45 mm Pilot is the larger expression of the design.
It has the substantial wrist presence you'd expect from a purpose-built instrument watch and gives the unusual architecture, dual crowns, Range Ring and rotated dial room to make themselves known.
If you like a watch to feel like a piece of equipment, this is it.
40 MM
The 40 mm Pilot takes the same design philosophy and architecture and packages it into a more compact footprint.
It isn't a different watch and it isn't a lesser version of the 45.
It retains the rotated display, Range Ring, dual-control architecture, emergency information system, ceramic construction and Wayward design language of its larger counterpart.
Two sizes. One instrument.
Choose the one that belongs on your wrist.
THE STRAP
A watch designed for people who operate their own machines needed a strap built for the environments those machines take them into.
The On Reserve · Pilot is fitted with a purpose-designed black Wayward FKM rubber strap.
FKM rubber was selected for its durability and resistance to water, sweat, grime, oils and changing temperatures.
It can get dirty. It can get wet. Clean it and keep going.
The strap has a substantial three-dimensional profile with a pronounced rolled section where it meets the case, visually carrying the strap into the flowing architecture of the lugs.
Deeply molded WAYWARD lettering identifies the strap without adding another logo to the dial.
The integrated quick-release system allows the strap to be removed without tools while eliminating the need for visible holes through the exterior of the lugs.
WHAT DO YOU PILOT?
There are easier ways to design a watch.
Put 12 at the top.
Put the logo underneath it.
Add a date window.
Put some text above 6.
Call it a pilot watch because it looks vaguely like something from an airplane cockpit.
We weren't interested.
For Wayward, Pilot isn't an aesthetic. It's a person.
It's the person behind the controls.
The person who understands that operating a machine is an active experience. You're reading the conditions, feeling what the machine is doing, watching your range and deciding where you're going next.
That's why we rotated the dial.
That's why we built the Range Ring.
That's why there are dedicated R and T controls.
That's why emergency identification is integrated into the watch.
And that's why we called it:
WAYWARD · ON RESERVE · PILOT
You don't need wings to be a pilot.
You just need something worth piloting.
Find Your Way.
