The first watch from Wayward Watch Company. The design that started it all.

Open Water One is Wayward’s flagship launch watch, created by founder Davis Raine after a lifetime spent diving, riding motorcycles, and collecting watches. It takes the familiar elements of a dive watch and gives them a distinctly Wayward point of view.

At its center is a matte black time dial rotated exactly 60 degrees clockwise inside an upright stainless steel case. The decorative 12 sits near the case’s 2 o’clock position, with the 3, 6, and 9 following around the dial. The case, crowns, and outer Wayfinder bezel keep their conventional orientation. It is an unexpected layout, but an intentional one: the signature of a watch made by following an idea all the way through.

The dial carries no conventional static logo. Instead, the Wayward brand mark forms the counterweight of the running seconds hand, moving continuously around the dial. A red seconds tip adds a restrained point of color. The hour and minute hands, decorative numerals, and hour markers stand out against the black surface, while the absence of a date window keeps the composition clean.

Two bezels. Two ways to navigate.

The thin black external Wayfinder bearing bezel sits above the sculpted steel case, with compass markings that remain aligned to the watch itself. Beneath the sapphire crystal, a separate black dive bezel rotates internally and carries a white triangular reference marker. The two crown design gives the internal dive bezel its own control, separate from time setting.

Between the crystal and the rotating dive bezel sits a narrow, fixed brushed steel rehaut. “OPEN WATER ONE • 300m” appears across its upper arc, with “WAYWARD WATCH CO.” below. These details frame the dial without placing additional text on its surface.

The Carapace bracelet

The Open Water One is paired with Wayward’s custom stainless steel Carapace bracelet. Its broad, geometric center elements and articulated side sections create a distinctive armored profile that continues the architecture of the case. Brushed surfaces and carefully shaped links give the bracelet its own identity. This is a bracelet designed for Open Water One, not a standard bracelet selected to fit it.

The Wayward rubber strap

For a different feel on the wrist, Open Water One can also be worn on the black Wayward rubber strap. A raised center section adds substance, while recessed channels give the strap depth and flexibility. Recessed WAYWARD lettering, two keepers, and a stainless steel buckle carry the design through to the final detail. It gives the watch a more understated, purpose driven look without changing the character of the watch head.

Open Water One was designed to feel at home near the water and wherever the road leads afterward. As Wayward’s first official watch, it establishes the details that will carry through the collection: the rotated time dial, the moving brand mark, and a willingness to see a familiar instrument from a different angle.
